Your commentary on keybinding, mouse buttons, and the fucked up keyboard couldnt be more well stated. I might also add that the absence of dedicated pg-up and pg-down keys makes navigation of large documents tedious to say the least....yes yes...fn+up and fn+dn will do that, but why should i have to rely on a 2 hand keystroke when a single key would suffice?

A little background.... I'm into day 3 of my macbookpro experience. In all likelihood those days are numbered. I expected to have issues with converting to a mac. I expected those issues to be OSX/software related more than anything else. The reality I have found is quite to the contrary. Most of my issues are ones that you might describe as ideological ones. The mouse button is my favorite and easiest to illustrate, perhaps because its such an enormous setback, or perhaps just because there it is in front of you standing alone in proud ignorance. When I set about "switching" I expected hurdles. I expected to have to re-learn keystrokes (awkward at first but I WILL learn them), re-learn where things are, etc. What I didnt expect was for the most simple mundane tasks to become painfully tedious. I rely heavily on mouse button rocker gestures for forward and backward navigation within apps, and especially browsers. Kiss that one goodbye. To those who will chime in about oh you can twofinger click for a right mouse button..... Go ahead, try to hold a right click, and then left click you silly fan boy. Seriously apple, one more button. I digress....scrolling.... two finger scrolling..... i love how this is purported to be some innovation.... I've had very reliable accurate 1 finger scrolling on my dell for YEARS. I find 2 finger scrolling to be inaccurate and at times even hit and miss. And the extra enter key? who knows. What I do know is that the enter key is less useful than it used to be to me, so I sure dont need 2 of them.

I could go on about my other gripes but wont. Bottom line is that i find OSX quite pleasant. There's enough windows to feel at home, but enough unix to feel safe, and enough apple to feel cooler than i am. But at the end of the day what matters is that I'm not getting as much done, and I only feel cooler than I am when the lid is closed. When it's open it's impossible to ignore that all I've done is trade one set of problems for another.

Anyone want to buy a 3day old MBP 17 ?? :) It looks like my Dell has more life left in it than I thought.
