October Sky is an anogram of the original title. It also makes a reference to the launch of the Russian satellite Sputnik on October 4, 1957. The movie opens with people watching the sky to see the Sputnik. The launch of Sputnik was a turning point that caused Homer and his friends to become interested in building rockets.

Building a rocket from scratch is terribly hard as you’d lack a lot of materials. I suggest you get a kit. Also, I’m sure the NASA site has a lot of info on building amateur rockets.

im as we speak trying to find an easy way to answer a ridiculous question asked by my teacher that we have to write an essay on for our semester test- and that question is to analyze the metaphor of homers rockets in describing life in coalwood. This question is ridiculous because rockets =/= life in coalwood and so far the search 4 a easy answer has gone unanswered and none of you are any help all in all i think this book blows and that when u have to write an essay on it it blows even more D:<

the movie is about four boys who are called rocket boys now people ask y is called october sky look : r-o-c-k-e-t b-o-y-s now if u rescramble them it says o-c-t-o-b-e-r s-k-y see this is a very nice story

I guess the movie is all time great. The filming, the acting, the costumes and the hair styles, every thing about the movie is great. And the plot is great too. Above all the acting by all the actors is great too. I guess very few films shall be made in the future which would be as good as the October Sky.

whether there’s a difference or not between the novel and the movie, i’l still love it!! what really gave this story to me is inspiration. i always like to do something to make me feel great but i know i lack something. watching this movie gave me a stepping stone for me to have that something that lacks me…i love it!! anyways, what was Elsie’s painting for? and could you show me the mathematical equation solved by homer?

It was titled “October Sky” because research showed that women who are 30 years old or older wouldn’t want to watch the “Rocket Boys” movie. These women didn’t seem interest in science, so the director named it “October Sky”, which sounded more interesting and somewhat romantic (although it’s not really romantic) i love this movie
