With all the recent RegisterFly problems going on… I’m getting a little worried on a personal level.
I currently have 99 domains with them and about $44 on my account balance. While I realize there are people out there with much larger stakes than this, it’s still something to mention. This just goes to show that ICANN accredited means nothing… if it takes this much to lose the badge, and a company as low-life as RegisterFly can obtain it… how is that supposed to make customer feel about accredited companies? It’s meaningless.
I’d give RegisterFly another month before they’re completely 404′d.

The “Fly” is crawling around on the home page of http://DomainKiting.com which is all GoDaddy registered domains at this time. A few domains are still at Yahoo and spread around but we never ever used RegisterFly and I just don’t see where they picked up the customers without having a little bit of a track record. I guess it was price promotions.

Hopefully you’ve been able to resolve this. I only had one domain to migrate, and I did it this way:
if your contact information is hidden by the ProtectFly services, you need to complete the following:
1. Go to http://www.enomcentral.com and create an eNom account, here you will
establish an enom account.
2. email a screenshot from within your RegisterFly account showing the
domain, so that we may verify domain ownership
3. email a copy of your photo ID (Driver’s license)
4. email your eNom login ID, (The one you created on enomcentral.com)
Note: Please include your domains in text format in the email, along
with the screenshot so that we may expedite your request.

otherwise, if you have access to the email listed in your whois information (http://www.registerfly.com/whois), you should be able to initiate a register transfer from your new registrar (be it enom, dreamhost, etc.)

I heard that ICANN has withdrawn RegisterFly’s credentials, so they are not going to be a registrar any longer. According to RegisterFlies, which I think is a website set up by victims, it probably is safer just bailing out of there NOW.

I’ve sort of gotten used to the nuisance of all these other things. The only thing that really bugs me now is the pop-over ads. You go to a news site for example, to read an article, and a banner ad pops right over the text you’re reading, forcing you to search for a tiny little X somewhere to shoo it away? Who in the name of god thought this would be a good idea? It’s like sitting in a coffee shop reading your newspaper and a salesman shoves a pamphlet in front of the story you’re reading and won’t move it away. You’d wanna punch the hell out of him. With pop-over ads, you’re completely helpless except for wishing you could press a button somewhere and throttle the life out of the guy who inserted it onto the page you’re trying to read.

I must say, I have to agree with you. John Chow is an admirable blogger, and his popularity is contageous. I regularly visit his blog. I don’t mind the egotism. Most of the time it’s humorous.
Whe It comes to advertising, I tend to read those also, but not nearly as much as blogg entries.

That’s understandable, Harry. I think there should be a balance between entries and advertising. Having to step over advertising just to read what a blogger has to say could becom an anoyance.
